event will feature 3 bands. I am pleased to let you know that
the Reservists Band of the Salvation Army will open our Festival.
They are new to our roster this year and we look forward to their
performance.

This time slot will be
an opportunity for the Hannaford Youth Education program to showcase
its members. This will also be an opportunity for the 3 finalists
on our annual Young Soloist Competition to vie for the right to perform
with the HSSB at our Sunday concert (the very next day!) This program
is now run by Anita McAlister and Darryl Eaton and we look forward
to them building upon all the great work done by Larry Shields.

Currently based at the
Salvation Army's Territorial
Headquarters in West Nyack, the New York Staff band is
directed by Bandmaster Ronald Waiksnoris. Since its
formation in 1887, this band has traveled throughout the
world and performed at such venues as The Royal Albert
Hall, Carnegie Hall and The Sydney Opera House. An event
not to be missed by lovers of brass.

Winner of the HSYB's 2007 Solo Competition
The HSSB's annual Festival
of Brass is a three day celebration of youth, community and the very
best of professional music making. Heavy Metal is the
grand finale of our Festival weekend and brings together remarkable
artists from the United States and Canada. This low brass extravaganza
will feature Aaron VanderWeele, euphonium virtuoso, of
the New York Staff Band. The winner of the Hannaford Street Youth
Band's 2007 solo competition will also perform.
