David Archer grew up in Beaverlodge, Alberta, and graduated from the University of Alberta with a bachelor degree in trombone performance in 1977, where he studied with Dr. Malcolm Forsyth. He has been a member of the National Ballet of Canada Orchestra since 1980, where he served as Principal Trombone for 36 years and currently holds the title of Second Trombone.

David was a founding member of the Hannaford Street Silver Band, performing as a member of the trombone section from 1983 until his retirement from the band in 2025. He similarly performed as a founding member of the Esprit Orchestra until 2024. He was a member of the 7th Toronto Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery Band from 1974 to 2024, and maintained a busy freelance and teaching career for many years in Toronto and Southern Ontario.

David currently lives in Minden Ontario with his wife and cat.
